The Underground Bookstore was founded almost three decades ago on the South Side of Chicago Illinois  and has been diligently serving it’s community ever since.  Our model has been if it exists in literature and you want it, we find it!

   Our store stocks a variety of books on black heritage and history and includes a mix of African and Diaspora authors. The genres range from mystery, esoteric, spiritual, new world order, health, fiction and so much more!  We also have a sizable section on children’s books. You’ll find historical books and recent ones on Black P. Stone Nation, Frederick Douglass’s autobiography, and histories of African civilizations.  While books are our main product because we believe knowledge is indeed power, we also have other cultural items such as incense, Egyptian Ankhs and Eyes of Horus, etc.

    Our mission is about empowering our communities with historical knowledge and educating our youth,  and our heart is about service to the people in a variety of ways.
